Celebrating Christmas in Mesa, AZ

November 8th, 2018 by

The beautiful, warm winter days in Mesa make it an ideal place for a comfortable holiday. You and your family can enjoy lots of interesting activities without the cold weather and icy roads of many other locations. Here are some great places where you can celebrate the Christmas season in and near Mesa, Arizona.

The Mesa Arizona Temple Gardens

Only five Mormon temples in the world have large holiday light displays, and one of those is the Mesa temple. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, from 5 to 10 p.m., you can see hundreds of thousands of beautiful lights. There’s also a nativity scene with a beautiful star above it, along with more nativities in the Visitors’ Center. They’re made by artists from all over the world. From the beginning of December to Christmas Day, local choirs perform from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Admission and parking is free.

ZooLights

ZooLights at the Phoenix Zoo has been a local tradition for 25 years. This annual event has millions of lights and hundreds of impressive illuminated displays. It includes rope lights, light strands, LED lights, black lights, fiber optics, lasers, strobe lights, and lights programmed to music.

Make sure you don’t miss Big Blue, a huge Christmas tree covered in blue lights. You can also check out live reindeer, Stingray Bay, and a 4-D theater. Kids will love the 200-foot Polar Slide as well. ZooLights is open from 5:30 to 10:30 every night from November 21 to January 13. You can even visit on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. You won’t be able to view all the animals at the Zoo, but you can still try a camel ride and see flamingos, zebras, otters, Komodo dragons, and more.

Christmas at the Princess

The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess resort is a AAA Five Diamond award winner. Every year from November 20 through December 31, it becomes a winter wonderland. This festival includes millions of lights arranged in creative displays. You can see Nessie, a 30-foot Loch Ness Monster, swans floating on lagoons, a 14-foot poinsettia, a pirate ship, and more.

You can enjoy Princess Express trains, an outdoor Desert Ice skating rink with 6,000 square feet of space, a holiday-themed Build-A-Bear workshop, a four-story Christmas tree with a five-foot snowflake on the top, and five-minute HD video shows projected against the side of the resort. At S’mores Land, kids can meet Graham the s’more at his house, roast marshmallows, and eat s’mores in the Christmas Tree Forest. They can ride the carousel or the Ferris wheel and get pictures with Santa as well. Make a reservation for gourmet brunch on Christmas Day at the Princess’s Palomino Ballroom.
